Minsait Presents the World’s First Deployment of a SCADA System That Allows Control of the Entire Electrical Grid of a Country From the Cloud

It will reduce the time for diagnosis and identification of anomalies by updating the SCADA supervision and control system currently used by ENERGUATE, the Guatemalan electricity company, and will incorporate the best user experience practices and critical information management.

  • It will reduce the time for diagnosis and identification of anomalies by updating the SCADA supervision and control system currently used by ENERGUATE, the Guatemalan electricity company, and will incorporate the best user experience practices and critical information management.
  •  The deployment of these systems in the Cloud will allow the technological infrastructure needed by electric companies to be quickly implemented, facilitating the allocation of resources automatically as well as transforming fixed expenses into more flexible models thanks to consumption-based payments.
  • This type of solution could reduce initial investment costs and infrastructure upgrade costs by up to 50% thanks to the advantages provided by operating in the Cloud.

Madrid, June 14, 2023 - Minsait, an Indra company, will present tomorrow to the 2023 AWS Summit Madrid, the firm's largest event in Spain, the deployment in Latin America of the world’s first SCADA system that makes it possible to operate and monitor the critical infrastructures of the entire electrical network of a country from the cloud. The project, which is being developed jointly with ENERGUATE, a Guatemalan electricity company and the largest in Central America, will facilitate the detection of incidents in the electrical service with greater speed, precision and lower costs. This is thanks in large part to the update of Minsait's SCADA PRISM system ACS, the Minsait unit in the United States, with a next-generation version that will be deployed on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud infrastructure.

The new SCADA PRISM incorporates the best practices in the design of the user experience (UX) and the management of critical information for the supervision and control of the operational status of the different elements of the electricity distribution network of Guatemala, which has an extension almost 80,000 kilometers and provides electricity service to more than 2.2 million customers in the country.

This new version of the system represents a significant improvement in incident resolution times thanks to a more agile identification of anomalies in assets and simplified diagnosis. To this end, it will include clear and intuitive representations of the state of the network and additional context information that increases the productivity of operators. Another important contribution will be the possibility of incorporating advanced analytics and artificial intelligence technologies to facilitate learning and continuous improvement on decision making that have a positive impact on reducing supply interruption times and service quality indices.

50% reduction in infrastructure costs

Minsait ACS is working with AWS to establish the dimensioning and specification of the Cloud infrastructure that will allow ENERGUATE to quickly implement the technological infrastructure it needs, allowing the allocation of resources automatically and transforming fixed expenses into more flexible models thanks to consumption-based payments.
