Energy Management System (EMS)

Minsait ACS offers an integrated EMS solution within our Onesait real-time system platform. EMS combines best-of-breed technologies using a powerful suite of field proven applications.

EMS supporting family wellbeing

Minsait ACS’ first Energy Management System was delivered in 1991 with a transmission state estimator, dispatcher’s load flow and contingency analysis applications. Today, the Onesait EMS supports the evolution of energy management by utilizing industry standard interfaces in a modular architecture to bring a flexible and field-proven solution to utilities.

The Solution

Onesait EMS is a best of breed Energy Management System (EMS) solution comprising of the Onesait real-time SCADA platform coupled with technology from our partner PSI Group, the leading European provider of transmission applications.

Onesait offers a single unified model and graphical operations for transmission and distribution operations in a Common Information Model (CIM) complaint solution. The component-based architecture enables addition or enhancement of applications as needed without affecting other components in the real-time system.

EMS Applications

Unified T&D Graphical Editor

Onesait EMS offers a unified T&D graphical editor for EMS and ADMS. The same editor is used for the creation and maintenance of both Transmission and Distribution network model and graphics.

Network Topology Processor

The Topology Processor (TP) calculates the current real-time state to be used by all the applications as well as by the user interface to colorize the dynamic network maps.

Power Flow

The Dispatcher Power Flow (DPF) can be executed in real-time, offline or study modes. The analysis data can originate from the real-time data, a set of previously saved cases, or data input manually altered in a study mode.

State Estimator

State estimation is based on a snapshot of the network and can be triggered by the following events: Topological changes in the network, relevant changes of measured values, predefined cycle time (parameterizable), manual start by user, import of a new external network dataset (option). State Estimation processes telemetered power system measurements to obtain an estimate of the system voltages, flows, generation, and load.

Contingency Analysis

Contingency Analysis is an integrated application to provide voltage security assessment for large-scale power networks under base case and contingency case scenarios in real-time and on-line study environments. Contingency definitions for Remedial Action Schemes and Special Protection Schemes are supported.

Generation Applications

Automatic Generation Control

AGC is an application that uses feedback loop control to regulate the power output of electric generators within a prescribed area in response to changes in system frequency, tie line loading, and the relation of these to each other. AGC monitors and controls power generation with these overall objectives: Minimize area control error, minimize operating costs, in conjunction with economic dispatch calculation software, maintain generation at fixed (baseload) values. AGC supports the NERC CPS 1&2, DCS , as well as the ERCOT SCE (Scheduling Control Error) reporting and control requirements.

Economic Dispatch

Economic Dispatch Calculation (EDC) is a program that dispatches the available generation of an electric power system to supply a given load in the most economic manner. The following characteristics apply to EDC:

- Incremental transmission losses are considered indirectly by imposing penalty factors on the dispatchable units.

- Calculation of optimal economic base points and participation factors for all generating units, as weel as dispatcher selected generating units.

- Real–time and study mode operation.
